What will it cost to get your piano tuned?

The real answer to that question is, it depends. With thousands of moving parts and differing materials that go into any piano working and sounding correctly, there could be a number of factors affecting its current tuning state. However, most often a standard tuning will do. Here are some of our rates for standard piano tuning and additional services that might be needed.
Upright piano with wood grain.

Standard Tuning 6 months or less

If it has been six months or less since your last piano tuning our standard rate is $100.00, including tax.

Standard Tuning more than 6 months

All pianos will naturally stray out of tune over time, even if they have not been played regularly, due to a number of factors, including the natural tension of the strings (thousands of pounds), changing atmospheric conditions (humidity, temperature, etc.) and more. If it has been more than six months since your last piano tuning, a little more more will be involved to set it right, so our rate is $120.00 including tax

Pitch Correction

All pianos are meant to be tuned to Concert Pitch or A440hz with all notes following in regular intervals. Sometimes a piano can be perfectly "in tune" but not relative to concert A440. In such cases a Pitch Correction is called for, which means raising (or occasionally lowering) every note and strong on the piano to its correct pitch. Our rate for a pitch correction is an additional $40.00

Other Common Services

While we offer a complete array of piano services and repairs, here are some of the more common that might go along with a tuning, depending on your pianos needs.

Key or Action Repair

Sometimes one or a few keys on a piano may need their action repaired. Action is the proper response each key of piano should have when played. (i.e. depresses properly when hitting the note and bounces back into place at the proper rate. We can repair key action at a rate of $15.00 per key.

Action Regulation

In the same way all notes of the piano are meant to be in the same proper tune, they are also meant to have the same action response or feel. (e.g. one key should not be more difficult to sound than another.) If needed we can perform a compete piano action regulation at a starting rate of $300.00 depending on the extent of your pianos needs.

Voicing

In the same way that every note and key on the piano is meant to be in tune and have the same response (action), each note is also meant to have the same sound quality. (e.g. one should not be "muffled" while another sounds "tinny" or bright.) This is called the piano Voicing and is achieved by adjustments made to the felt heads on the piano hammers. Our rate for piano voicing is $75.00
